Frequently Asked Questions

How can I place an order with you?

Orders can be placed through email heysugarcave@gmail.com or via phone by calling 804-631-5772. Here at The Sugar Cave we love to discuss details about your event and order needs so we prefer to do a phone conference prior to placing your order. Once we have chatted and the details of your special event or wedding day are clear we will email an invoice containing the details of our discussion for your approval.

How much will my order be?

We completely understand that weddings and events can definitely be pricey, so knowing exact prices is not only helpful but important. This is one reason we have our base starting prices that can be found on the menu. Please understand that these prices are for basic buttercream and or rustic styles. We must adjust costs accordingly for cakes and desserts that need more decorative details, toppers, decor, florals, colors, and or labor associated with completing your order.

What is your payment policy?

After we have finished our consultation and the details of what you'd like are clear we will send you an email with the invoice or proposal containing the details of your order, time and address for delivery or pickup for your review. We then require a non-refundable deposit of 50% to book your order. The remainder amount is due no later than 2 weeks prior to your event date. If the order is placed within 2 weeks of the needed date then the payment must be made in full prior to booking. Orders needed within 48 hours fall under the "Rush Order" policy and will be subject to a Rush Order fee up to 50% of the order. This fee will not be a surprise fee. Our availability, amount of product needed, complexity of design and any rush shipping needed will be taken into consideration when calculating Rush Order fees. 

What is your cancellation process?

Orders cancelled within a week of the event are unfortunately non-refundable. Orders cancelled prior to two weeks in advance can be credited toward a future order.

Can I visit you for a tasting?

That is a wonderful question! The Sugar Cave is a licensed, insured, and inspected home based bakery based in Hopewell, VA. As much as we would love to meet with our clients at this time we are not doing sit down tastings. We are considering the health of each and every single client and taking proper precautions to put safety first. But don’t be too bummed! We are doing delicious sample boxes for tastings. You can choose up to 5 flavors to sample for the cake only box and 5 flavors of cake as well as 4 Treats options for the cake and treats sample box option! Go ahead and give us a call to try yours today!

Do you deliver?

We absolutely do deliver to all locations in Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, and North Carolina for $2 per mile. Orders needed further out may be subject to other charges to suffice for tolls, etc. 

What is your pick-up process?

The address for pick up will be provided in the details of your invoice. We require that you please give us a courtesy call or text when you are 10 minutes away so that we can have your order boxed and ready to be handed to you. 

Do you make decorated cookies?

We do not make decorated cookies and HIGHLY recommend Lil’ Stuff Cookies owned by Dena Ashby! Not only are her cookies stunning and beautiful but they are delicious!

Can you meet my dietary needs?

We sure can and we are happy to! Whether you are vegan, gluten free or both we can definitely accommodate.

How many flavors can I have?

We actually suggest having more than just one flavor for your guest to enjoy. For tiered cakes each tier can be 1 flavor containing buttercream or filling. For cupcakes at the minimum of 1 dozen 2 flavors can be had.

Do you make dessert bars?

We do and would love to discuss options with you!

What type of coffee do you use for Mocha cupcakes?

We use Southeatern Roastery and highly recommend them!
